Moto G4 Plus Will Soon be Getting Android 8.0 Oreo Update Confirms Motorola

On September 14th, 2017 Motorola finally released a list of its smartphones which are eligible to get the android 8.0 Oreo update. Moto G4 Plus wasn't a part of that list and it was disappointing for G4 Plus users. Many people bought this phone on its promise of getting the android 8.0 Oreo update as Lenovo-owned Motorola confirmed this during the launch event. The android 8.0 Oreo update promise has been the most important selling point for Moto G4 Plus and there is no reason for this phone to not get the android Oreo update.

Besides having a mid-range hardware the Moto G4 Plus is still capable of running android 8.0. Recently Motorola confirmed via a blog post that the Moto G4 Plus will be updated to android Oreo. It was also confirmed that the phone wasn't listed because of some marketing materials errors. You can read the official statement from Motorola which states that.
🙶Since the time of posting this, we have learned of some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for moto g4 Plus. It’s our general practice for the moto g family to get one major OS upgrade per device, so it wasn’t originally planned for Android O. But it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading moto g4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit into our schedule, we’ll update our software upgrade page when we have more info.🙷
And also if you visit the software upgrade section at the motorola-mobility-en-in.custhelp.com then you can see that the Moto G4 Plus will be upgraded to android 8.0. But the exact time has not been mentioned. The Moto G4 Plus received the android 7.0 Nougat update last year in December 2016 so we are not sure whether the Oreo update will arrive by December 2017. As per the reports, the standard Moto G4 and G4 Play will not be getting the android 8.0 updates.

The G4 Plus was also criticized for its screen burn issue that Motorola never managed to fix. The problem started after the July 2016 security patch update and affected almost every phone that installed the update. Motorola doesn't have found a fix for this problem because even after the screen replacement the problem comes back within a month. So, we hope that this problem gets fixed with the upcoming android Oreo update. Recently, Moto G4 Plus got the September 2017 security patch update to fix the BlueBorne vulnerability.
