Avast SecureLine VPN Review: Reliable VPN Service That Hides Your Online Activity and Protects Your Privacy

Avast SecureLine is a VPN service that is available for Mac, Windows, android and iOS users. Avast SecureLine hides your original IP address on the internet and encrypts your network traffic. To make the internet a safer place one should use a VPN. A VPN not only hides your real IP address but it also lets you access geo-locked content that is not available in your country. In this post, we are going to review avast SecureLine that is currently available for android, iOS, mac OS and windows 10.

What is a VPN and why do we need it?

VPN is 'Virtual Private Network' which is an extension of the private network across public networks. This security technology is handled by the VPN server which is located at a remote location. On using a VPN all of the internet traffic generated on the user's end gets encrypted and passes through the ISP's server to reach the VPN server where it gets decrypted. Thus VPN provides us a secure way to use the internet. The main function of a virtual private network server is to encrypt the internet traffic so that no one can see what you were searching or what websites you were visiting. On using VPN even your ISP can't know about your online activity.

Another benefit of using a VPN is that you can connect to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks without bothering about IP leak and bypass internet censorship. Since VPN masks your IP address and encrypts your internet traffic you can freely connect to unsecured open Wi-Fi networks at public places like hotels and airports. It also lets you access content that is not available in your country like you can access US NetFlix in Canada with a VPN.

Avast SecureLine works similar to a secure phone. A secure phone is a telephone that encrypts your voice call by using end to end encryption. A secure phone is used by US military to prevent man in the middle attacks during a confidential voice call.

Avast SecureLine VPN Review: Hides Your Online Activity and Protects Your Privacy

1. Ease of usage: After reviewing many VPN apps and services we can say Avast SecureLine is the easiest VPN to use. The android version of avast secureline doesn't have many user-configurable settings. And just one tap on the 'CONNECT' button starts the service. You can only configure 'Unsecured WiFi networks' setting.

2. Server Locations: Avast SecureLine has 27 server locations in 19 countries. Most servers are located in the United States. So if you want to access American NetFlix anywhere in the world then you can use this VPN. The 'Optimal Location' feature automatically selects the best server based on your network traffic. You can select a server location from major countries including USA, Canada, Russia, Japan, UK etc. Below is the list of all servers locations.

avast secureline server locations

3. Internet Speed Test: A VPN doesn't affect your network speed much. Depending on the server location your network speed may decrease by few Kbs. However, in most cases a VPN can boost speeds on a slower internet connection and we are pretty sure about this.

4. Data Logging: Avast SecureLine doesn't log any personally identifiable information. They claim that they don't make a profile of you based on your network activity. They only log some information that is required for the betterment of their service. Since Avast is a Czech Republic based security Software giant so it won't be sharing your usage activity with USA/NSA. But beware don't use Avast SecureLine to hide your criminal activities. You can read Avast Acceptable Use Policy.

5. Avast Internet Security With SecureLine: It is common for all of us to use an antivirus to protect our PCs and Macbooks. If you are using an Avast antivirus then you can use SecureLine within it. You just need to enter your SecureLine license and activate the service. We personally recommend Avast Internet Security to secure your PC against malware, spyware, viruses and trojans. And with SecureLine you achieve the best security for your PC from online threats and frauds. Buy Avast Internet Security.

6. Protocols: Avast SecureLine use OpenVPN protocol on Windows and android and it uses IPSec on iOS and Mac. With OpenVPN protocol, SecureLine provides 256-bit AES encryption which is thought to be the most secure encryption technology. Both OpenVPN and IPSec doesn't have any major vulnerabilities and they are considered secure when used with 256-bit AES encryption. So after connecting to Avast SecureLine you shouldn't worry about network encryption. 256-bit encryption provides the highest security against identity theft and online threats that may occur due to IP leakage.

7. No Disconnection: While using many VPN services I have seen that most of them disconnect while operating thereby revealing your original identity on the internet. But once connected Avast SecureLine doesn't disconnect. But you should make sure that your router has a stable network for good VPN connectivity.

8. Unlimited Bandwidth: Avast SecureLine provides unlimited bandwidth. You can switch servers unlimited times and there is no capping on data usage.

9. No IP Leakage: It is possible that certain VPN service providers may leak your original IP address to the world. And after getting your local IP address anybody can trace your location. But Avast SecureLine is completely safe and totally free from this flaw.

10. Pricing: One year license for Mac and Windows costs $59.99 which comes with 30-days money back guarantee. The android version of this service comes with a 7-day free trial and it costs $19.99 per year. If you purchase a license for an android device then you can use same license code on multiple android phones after adding the Google account that you used to purchase the license code. I have tested this feature and the same license is working on two android phones. You can use in-app purchases to buy license code.

11. Built-in Email Support: If you face any issues with the android, iOS, Mac or Windows version of secureline then you can send your complaints via the built-in contact form. Android and iOS users can go to 'Menu>About>Contact support'. Enter your email and describe the problem then tap the 'Send' button. On Windows and Mac versions click the 'Feedback' button to report your problem.

➜ Why Should You Buy Avast SecureLine

We have reviewed and tested many VPN apps and services like ExpressVPN, VyprVPN, Hide My Ass!, Hide My IP, SurfEasy, Hotspot Shield and NordVPN. One common feature among all these VPN services is that their single license works at least on 5 different devices simultaneously except Hide My IP. But in the case of Avast SecureLine, you will need to purchase the separate license for different devices. We are pretty much sure that if you are buying Avast SecureLine for android then you can use the same license on more than two phones.

One month license of the above mentioned VPN services cost more than $12 monthly. But do remember that same license will work on 5 devices simultaneously. But if you want to use the VPN only on your smartphone then you don't need to spend $12+. You can buy Avast SecureLine for android/iOS at just $1.99 per month. Currently, SecureLine provides licenses for one month, one year, two years and three years. The multi-platform licensing is coming in early Q1/2017 so you would be able to use the same license across multiple devices. If you want to secure multiple devices then go for ExpressVPN - Read Review.

Avast currently has 400 Million active users. Recently they acquired AVG Technologies in July 2016. AVG has 200 Million active users, so technically we can say Avast has 600 Million active users which make it the world's largest security software developer for PCs and smartphones. With this acquisition, they have also acquired Hide My Ass! Pro VPN which was previously a part of AVG.

  1. Hello, The "How To Check For IP Leakage" section on (http://www.pcnexus.net/2016/12/avast-secureline-vpn-review-paid-version.html)states: "You will not see your local IP address, which is good".
But..., with the AVAST VPN Service ON I see at
    "Your local IP addresses: 192. ... . ... . ..
    (points stand for other numbers),
which is the same as when I'm NOT using the Avast VPN service

So one can see my IP address in this demo request, or don't I understand what you are saying?
Can someone help me with this question?
    Thanx, Feng

    1. This is not IP leakage. The problem is when you use a VPN your IP changes to the country you selected. But when you stop VPN the browser keeps using that same VPN address, but actually your IP address can be traced because VPN has stopped, but browser sees it as if VPN is still active.

Suppose my original location is in USA but I am using UK VPN on my phone and the chrome browser will now deliver me country specific results from google.co.uk. My IP is secured from any leakage because VPN is ON. But when I disconnect VPN the chrome browser still shows results from google.co.uk instead of showing results from my country's google page google.com.

However in this case VPN is not active but browser is seeing as it is active as it is using the old cache used by the UK VPN.

To overcome this problem first clear history and browser cache. Disconnect your internet and force stop any VPN app from android settings. The reconnect network and now you will see that results are from your country's google page if you are not using a VPN.
