Hide Photos,Videos,SMS And Call Logs With Vault For Android

Most android users always have a question about hiding their private data on their phone,but they don’t find a good solution always.Previously I wrote a post about applock which is used to lock android apps.Applock only locks your phone with a pattern lock or a number lock.Applock is suitable if you do not have much sensitive data stored on your phone like passwords,credit card details etc.

If  your android phone is home to a much sensitive data then you can use the Vault by netqin.Vault is an android app which encrypts your private secret data and puts it in a secret box.So the data can’t be seen and is no longer accessible  by intruders.The encrypted data will not be visible on your phone and the sd card.Hidden encrypted data can only be seen in the Vault.If your decrypt and restore the hidden data then it will return to its normal state and will be visible with other files on your android phone or its sd card.

How Does Vault Works
Vault for android simply encrypts the secret data like photos,videos,calls and sms,contacts into a binary file having an extension of .bin.The encrypted files are stored in “SystemAndroid>Data>NDk2NDZ=” folder directory.Files stored in this folder are encrypted binary files and can only be viewed in the Vault app.In the Data folder separate folders are created for different files for example encrypted images will be stored in "SystemAndroid>Data>NDk2NDZ>.image".The encrypted videos are stored in ".video" folder in the same directory and so on.Do not delete the "SystemAndroid" folder on android phone's sd card because it contains the encrypted files.If you delete this folder your all files will be lost.

How To Encrypt And Hide Files On Android With Vault
With Vault for android you can hide photos,videos,sms and call logs,private contacts,facebook messages and also you can store your encrypted data online in Vault cloud storage.First download and install Vault from google play store and set it up by following the on screen instructions.Assign a powerful password for Vault during setup.

2.SMS And Call Logs : To encrypt SMS and Call Logs click “SMS and Call Logs” in Vault.Click the plus sign on top right and select “Hide Phone Numbers” or “Hide Messages”.But in this you can only restore SMS and call logs one by one.When you hide a phone number it will not show in contacts list.If you hide a a call log it will not show up in Call Logs and if you hide a message it will not show in your phone’s inbox.To restore any message,contact or call log just click on any message,contact or call log and then click menu and then select “restore”.

3.Private Contacts : When you add a private contact to your Vault then any message and call record from that contact will be automatically imported into your Vault box and hidden from your phone’s SMS and call logs.If you lose your phone nobody will be able to see your messages or call logs.To add a Private Contact click “Private Contacts” and click the plus sign on top right and select your private contact to add.

4.Facebook Messages : Now you send encrypted messages on facebook with Vault.When you send encrypted message on facebook they didn’t appear in your facebook account so nobody can ever see them.You need to login in facebook through Vault to send encrypted messages.

5.Vault Online : You can backup your data to Vault Online,your private cloud storage space.Vault encrypts your data to help make sure you’re the only one who gets to see it.

Alternate Email

• In the “Security info” click “Add” under “Alternate email address”.This email address should not be associated with Microsoft account.Add your another email from gmail or yahoo etc for recovery.
• After you click add,enter your desired email address and click “Next”.You will receive the verification code on your email address.Enter that code and click “Next” and you are done.

• Now you can choose “Email” during 2-step verification if you do not have your phone to receive text messages or calls.This is your backup option never remove alternate email.You can add multiple alternate emails.

Authenticator App

• This app is available for windows smart phones and android smart phones.First you have to download and install this app from your respective apps store.In windows phone app store it is available as Microsoft authenticator app.
• Download and install another app called “Scan” which will be used to scan the 2D bar codes which will show up during 2-step verification.This app is available on play store.
• Now under “Authenticator app” click “Set up” then click “Next”.
• Now you will see a drop down list and a 2D barcode.Select “Authenticator app”.Now scan the 2D barcode with the “Scan” app on your phone.You will see a notification for saving the key on your android or windows phone in authenticator app,then click OK.The secret key will be automatically added to the authenticator app and you will see a green clock and a code.Enter the code below the 2D bar code and  click “Next”.

• Now 2-step verification is on with authenticator app.Next time when you login just pick a code from this authenticator app and enter in 2-step verification step.

Now 2-step verification is enabled on your Microsoft accounts and you have four options to receive verification codes during verification process.These four options are authenticator app,text message,voice call and email.If you lose any of the option then you can select the other for verification codes.For example if you do not have your smart phone with you with the authenticator app then you can receive codes via email or text messages.Click “Use a different verification option” during 2-step verification and select the option through which you want to receive codes.

Important Note : Use two different phones for authenticator and mobile number.I mean to say that a smart phone like android or windows phone for authenticator app and a simple mobile phone to receive codes.If you use only the smart phone for both these options then if you lose your smart phone then you will lose your two recovery options for Microsoft account.So use different devices for these two features.

Generate Application Passwords
Now after enabling 2-step verification you won’t be able to login in apps like outlook on your windows phone 8 that doesn’t support 2-step verification method.When you login into them with your correct password they will say “wrong password”.For this you need application password.You can generate application password for every app on windows phone 8 or windows 8 that doesn’t support 2-step verification.

• Go to “Security info” and under “App passwords” click “Create a new password”.The password will be generated and you just have to enter this password in any app and just forget.It will never ask you to enter password again until you change the login password on Microsoft accounts.
• The same application password will not work on every app.You have to generate specific password for specific app.
• To remove all the application passwords click “Remove existing app passwords”.

Note : You only have to generate application passwords if you enable 2-factor authentication,otherwise there is no need.

Trusted Devices
If you have a trusted device then you can login from it in to your Microsoft account without 2-step verification codes.You can add a trusted device during 2-step verification process.A trusted device is your personal computer,laptop,windows phone or any other smart phone.See the image below.

You can see an option in the above pic stating that “I sign in frequently on this device.Don’t ask me for a code.”.If you check this option then that device will be added to your trusted device list and all Microsoft services like outlook,hotmail,Xbox live etc. will not ask you for codes if you login only from that device.You can just login into Microsoft account with your user name and password only but only on that trusted device.If you login from some where else then you will be asked for codes during 2-step verification.

Important Note : If you add your personal computer,laptop or windows phone to trusted device list then you will not be asked for codes and if you lose every option to receive 2-step verification codes then you can login into your Microsoft account from that trusted device only.Do not check the option “I sign in frequently on this device.Don’t ask me for a code” during 2-step verification if you are using a public computer.You can add multiple trusted devices by checking the option on different devices.

If you feel that you have checked the option on an untrusted device then you can remove it.But it will remove all the trusted devices from the list.So you need to add only trusted devices again for example your personal computer if you want to add a trusted device.

How To Remove A Trusted Device

• In “Security info” under “Trusted devices” click “Remove all the trusted devices associated with my account”.This will remove all devices from the list.

• Check The Motherboard Wattage : Motherboard wattage is the power requirement at which it operates normally without being power hungry.For example GIGABYTE G41 require a 500W power supply so that it should work properly with expansion slots.This means that you need to install a 500W(Watt) power supply.You can easily find motherboard wattage in its manual.Below is the example taken from a manual.

• Check The Number Of Connectors : Always make sure before buying a power supply that it has same number of power connectors for all the devices that can be connected on the motherboard.These power connectors include SATA connectors for HDD,DVD/CD power connectors,24 pin main power connector,4/8 pin 12V power connector for CPU.These are most important connectors.Check for these first.Bigger wattage power supplies have more power connectors.
• Be Original : Always buy a power supply of good brand like cooler master,antec or seventeam because a cheap power supply can harm your computer’s motherboard by sending more current to the motherboard.These cheap products may not have proper voltage or current regular or it may fail due to cheap parts that can even burn your motherboard if over current flow to the motherboard.So always buy a good power supply.Prefer buying those PSUs that are 80% efficient.

How To Install And Upgrade A New Power Supply
You need help of hardware technician if you don’t know about motherboards.Don’t do it yourself otherwise you will damage the motherboard or get an electric shock.

• Switch off the computer and remove the power cord.Disconnect all the power connectors from the motherboard.Be gentle do not pull them with a great force otherwise motherboard may break.
• Remove the power supply unit from the cabinet and install the new one and fasten the screws.
• Connect the 24 pin ATX main power connector to motherboard then connect 4/8 pin 12V power connector for CPU.Check the manual for connector specifications.Double check that you have connected both these connectors otherwise motherboard will not boot.
• Make sure to connect the power connectors of all devices including HDD,DVD/CD drives etc.Make sure that power supply wires do not lie here and there on motherboard and should not touch it otherwise they may catch fire.However these wires are tied with a plastic knot supplied by manufacturer.

Keyboard/Interface Error No Keyboard Detected : How To Fix

Many a times you have seen that your desktop pc reports a keyboard error “Keyboard Interface Error” press F1 to resume during BIOS boot up.This problem is related to the two PS/2 ports situated on the back of the desktop computer for mouse and keyboard.The system delivers the “Keyboard Interface Error” because it is unable to find any PS/2 keyboard on the motherboard.However when you connect a USB keyboard then it will work but you will still see this keyboard error during bios bootup.So,in this tutorial I will show how I realized and fixed the keyboard interface error for PS/2 port.

Basic Terms Used
1.PS/2 Port
2.ATX Power Supply
3.AT/ATX/uATX/EPS are form factor specification of the motherboard.We buy power supply according to this form factor.For example I will buy uATX power supply for a motherboard having uATX form factor.
4.uATX stands for micro ATX.

How To Fix Keyboard Interface Error
The only solid reason that I found which is responsible for this problem is a low power ATX power supply which is incapable of providing sufficient power to the motherboard to function properly.I was using a 200W (W=Watts) power supply on a 400W ASUS motherboard and a 500W GIGABYTE G41-MTS2.This 200W ATX SMPS is not sufficient for my 400W ASUS P5KPL-VM/S and 500W GIGABYTE G41-MTS2 motherboard.That’s why both the motherboards are power hungry since 4 years that’s why I am getting this keyboard error.Now I explain it in detail starting with checking power supply.

Check Computer Power Supply
A computer motherboard needs enough power to run without any problems.For this you need to install a power supply with correct wattage.Motherboards have different form factors like ATX,micro ATX,AT,EPS etc.Mine is micro ATX which uses a 24 pin main power connector and a 12V 4 pin CPU power connector.Check the form factor of your motherboard whether it is AT,ATX,micro ATX(uATX) or EPS before buying a new power supply.Almost every motherboard today has ATX form factor.Check your motherboards’ manual for this.

Every motherboard manufacturer sets an optimal power limit in Watts for the motherboard which will be enough at which it can run without being power hungry and all its ports receive enough power.A motherboard has 2 dedicated power sources one is the 24 pin ATX power connector which supplies power to rest of the board except the cpu and a 4 pin 12V dedicated power connector for cpu.These two connectors supply the overall current to the motherboard to run at its full.

It is crucial that you check your desktop computer’s motherboard manual for its power requirement and check whether it matches with the power supply installed in your pc.Today desktop computers require at least 350W ATX power supply to operate without malfunctioning.I have GIGABYTE G41-MTS2 and its power requirement is 500W which means I need to install an ATX power supply which have a power output of 500W.At this power I can use all the internal ports and external ports of my pc without any problem.But this motherboard was running on a 200W ATX SMPS with a 20 pin ATX connector and 2 pins are left unused which is not sufficient power to run this motherboard at its full capacity.

Why I Was Getting Keyboard Interface Error
I was getting keyboard interface error due to low power ATX SMPS.This 200W power supply is unable to provide enough current to all the ports and expansion slots of the motherboard.Due to very low power current in the PS/2 ports the system was unable to find the keyboard because the PS/2 port was not working due to very low current in it.But when I used a USB keyboard it worked fine because all USB ports are getting enough power to operate.Voltage at USB end is 5V DC.Look at the PS/2 pinout diagram.

The pin number 4 was not getting enough power to operate due to a weak power supply.

How I Fixed The Keyboard/Interface Error
Firstly I would say if you are running a 400W motherboard on a 200W ATX power supply then you are surely going to encounter this problem.Not only this problem but other internal and external ports may malfunction due to low current.I strongly recommend to upgrade the power supply of your desktop pc according to the motherboard’s form factor and power requirements for correct operation.Check the manual for correct information about motherboard power requirements.

WARNING : Do not open the motherboard if you do not know anything about it because you can get an electric shock and never open the cabinet cover while the system is connected to AC power outlet and computer is running.It is hazardous.

After I realized that the power supply installed in my desktop is incapable for providing sufficient power to the motherboard then I removed some of the peripherals like DVD RAM drive and floppy drive because these two drives are drawing power for no use and are wasting it and I don’t use them more.So I removed their power and data connectors while the system is off and is not connected to AC power outlet.

I connected the power cord and restarted the pc,now it is running with only a mouse and a keyboard.What I see during bios bootup that the keyboard interface error vanished and the PS/2 ports came back to life and are working properly with a PS/2 keyboard because the motherboard is now getting enough power for itself to operate and the power supply is not under heavy load due to a number a devices connected to it,as I already removed the DVD drive and floppy drive.Now the keyboard error doesn’t show up in bios and PS/2 ports works fine.But I will have to upgrade the power supply to at least 400W.

If you are getting keyboard interface error then this might the case with you.However it is not necessary that you may face the same symptom as I am facing but I will strongly recommend you to check for this low power ATX/uATX/EPS power supply symptom before any other.You can follow these tips to fix this keyboard error.

• The very first and the most important step is to check the ATX/uATX/EPS power supply.It should be at least 350W or more.check your computer’s motherboard manual for correct wattage specification.The power rating of power supply is written on their top cover.
• If you find that your ATX/uATX/EPS power supply is incapable of providing enough power then try detaching the DVD drives,floppy drives or any other device connected to it for a short time to ensure that the motherboard doesn’t have any problem.If the motherboard is OK then this keyboard error will vanish on next boot up after you removed the two drives because now the motherboard will get enough power.Make sure to remove the power cord from AC power outlet  before opening the cabinet cover and touching the motherboard otherwise you will get an electric shock and motherboard will get a short circuit and may even catch fire.Be careful about this.
• If possible then upgrade the power supply according to the motherboard’s power specification.A 200W power supply is too low for todays desktop computer.The minimum requirements is 350W.

Some Other Reasons And Misconceptions About Keyboard Interface Error

• PS/2 Solder Joints Are Loose : Most experts say that the keyboard interface error can occur due to loose PS/2 port solder joints on motherboard.But this is not completely true if your motherboard is of trusted brand like ASUS,Intel or Gigabyte.I checked the solder joints of the PS/2 port and found them okay.These solder joints are created by automatic machines not by human hands and lasts till the life of the motherboard.They won’t get loose on their own.This a very rare case in which solder joints get loose.However if your pc’s power supply is okay then you can take the help of a hardware expert to check the solder joints.
  
• Faulty I/O Microcontroller Chip : Most experts also say that keyboard interface error can also occur due to a failed I/O microcontroller chip on the motherboard.This chip is responsible for controlling the input from keyboard and mouse.If this chip fails or burns then your desktop pc will not accept any input even from USB mouse or keyboard.So this is also not true the I/O controller chip has failed if the USB mouse and keyboard works on your desktop pc.
  
• No Keyboard Drivers Installed : You don’t need to install any keyboard driver on a windows pc.The driver will be automatically installed when you connect a PS/2 keyboard to the motherboard.

Final Resolution
The keyboard error occurs mostly due to a low power supply which can’t provide enough power to motherboard to operate properly.The PS/2 port requires exactly 5 Volts.If it gets low power then port will malfunction.I upgraded the power supply unit to 400W according to motherboard power specification and uATX form factor.Now both PS/2 ports are working. But also it is not necessary that this is them same case that applies to your motherboard, your computer's may have other hardware problems. So get it checked before buying a new power supply. Also running a computer motherboard on a low power supply will definitely cause it to malfunction.

Now after downloading ePSXe emulator and a ps1 rom follow the instruction below step by step.You can watch the video first then can read the instructions later.

Configure Video Plugin
1.Open ePSXe and goto Config>Video.From the drop down list select “P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.18”.Then click Configure.Here you will see video controls.Select “Fullscreen Mode” to run the games in fullscreen other wise choose “Window mode” to run it in a small window.Also you can specify your resolution.Also choose Color depth to 32 bit.Then click OK,then OK.

Configure BIOS
1.To configure bios goto Config>Bios.A prompt box will open.Click “Select” and locate the bios file SCPH1001.bin.You can find this file in ePSXe>bios>SCPH1001.bin.Locate this file and select it then click OK.

Configure Memory Cards
1.Memory cards are in ePSXe>memcards folder.To configure memory cards goto Config>Memory Cards.A prompt box will open,you will see two different memory cards location here.Click select and choose each memory card in different slots.

Settings To Setup Dual Shock Controllers

• Connect your dualshock pc usb gamepad or ps3 controller to pc and install its driver.When it is ready to use you will see a notification in the system tray that your device is ready to use.Do not disconnect it now.
• Open ePSXe and click “Config”.Then select “Game Pad”.Then click "Port 1" and then select "Pad 1".A gamepad setting wizard will open with a dualshock controller with all button specifications.From the drop down list select “SCPH-1200 DualShock”.
• Now this is time to configure the buttons and analog stick of your pc gamepad.The default buttons are set to keyboard.We need to put pc gamepad buttons in this setting wizard instead of keyboard keys.Below is the image of gamepad before setting the keys to pc gamepad.

• To assign the buttons first click the buttons with mouse then press the buttons of your gamepad.Assign buttons exactly according to the controller layout.Below is the image of the gamepad after setting it up completely.Assign buttons as shown in the image below.

• Now we have to enable vibrations.You will see several options just next to the controller setup.Click “Type” below the “Rumble” option and select “DX joy1”.Under “Big Motor” select “Constant” and under “Small Motor” select “Sine”.Then click OK.
• If you have another controller then connect it and repeat the above process for it.But this time goto Config>Game Pad>Port 2>Pad 2.Now setup buttons,six axis controller and the motors for the vibration for the second gamepad.Click OK.For gamepad 2 under “Rumble” select “DX joy2” and motor settings is same.
• Now click “File” and select “Run ISO”.Then locate the ps1 rom bin/iso/img file select it and click open.If you have an original playstation game cd then insert it in cd/dvd drive then click “File” in ePSXe and select “Run CDROM”.Now enjoy playstation ps1/psx games with a dualshock vibration gamepad on windows pc.

Note : The dualshock controller can be used to play any emualtor games like nes,snes,CPS1,sega genesis and neogeo.
